IRLP web page     IRLP Nets    Reflector status

Must DO'S:

   1. Identify yourself phonetically.  Unkey.

   2. Key down and enter node codes. Right now there are 5 digits. See your code sheet.  Key them in relatively quickly.

   3. Wait!! You should hear a slight hum while the IRLP is connecting.  When successful an announcement will be made identifying the node.  If not successful an announcement will be made either;
        node is currently connected to (whoever) or
        a time out message.

   4. When the connection is successful, wait/listen to hear any traffic on the node.

   5. When you key down, wait at least 2 seconds before speaking.  There are a lot of systems we go through each time we key down on the IRLP. Otherwise your first word or two will not be heard on the other end.

   6. Remember!  Each and every time you key down while connected follow step #5.

   7. After you make your call, wait/listen at least 10 seconds for a reply.  Again it takes a while for all the systems to get up to speed on each transmission and the person on the other end is also waiting after he/she keys down.

   8. To terminate your connection there must be no output from the node you are connected to (no carrier).  Then key down and key in the disconnect code.  When successful you will hear the announcement.

   9. After you are done the repeater will be listening for quite a while before it goes to sleep.  This allows us to listen for any incoming nodes connecting to us.  When an incoming node connects to us you can reply using step #5 and have fun.

DON'TS

    1. While keying in the DTMF codes, please please, do not hold the key in and make a long tone cycle.  Just firmly tap the button.  Then do not leave a lot of time between the sequence you are doing.  Practice a couple of times to get the pattern down by just touching the keys without pressing them to get the timing learned and of course not while holding the PTT button.

2.  You do not have to send the disconnect code if you did not connect, (ie. time out or node in use.)
